The Yoga Sandbag

yoga pose with sandbag As we all know an important action that can be difficult to find in yoga poses is “weight”, “grounding”, or “rooting,” as yoga teachers sometimes say. An excellent prop to experience these sensations is a yoga Sandbag. For example, in Dandasana (staff pose), a Sandbag placed on top of each thigh will “root” the thighs more towards the ground. We know from Newton’s law of motion that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, so the more you root the thighs down in Dandasana, the more the spine and chest can find upward length and lift.
